Chat-O Mobile Apps Updated: Improved Performance, Native Future

We’re excited to announce updated versions of the Chat-O mobile apps are now available on the App Store and Google Play. This release brings performance improvements, bug fixes, and sets the foundation for the future of Chat-O on mobile.

Since this update, we’ve continued expanding the platform with new features including improved image editing workflows and dozens of new AI models now accessible from your mobile device.

Our Hybrid Approach (For Now)

The current Chat-O mobile apps use a hybrid architecture: native app shell with web view components. This approach has allowed us to:

  • Ship faster: One codebase for core features across platforms
  • Stay in sync: Mobile and web features update together
  • Focus on AI: Spend more time on model integration, less on UI duplication
  • Iterate quickly: Bug fixes and features deploy without app store review delays

Hybrid apps get a bad rap, but done well, they can deliver great experiences. We’ve worked hard to make Chat-O mobile feel smooth and responsive despite the web view foundation.

But We Want Better

That said, we’re not satisfied with “good enough.” Mobile is too important—more and more of you are using Chat-O on phones and tablets as your primary device. You deserve a mobile experience that’s not just good, but exceptional.

That’s why we’re working toward fully native mobile apps.

The Native Future

Over the coming months, we’re planning a gradual migration to fully native implementations for both iOS and Android:

What Native Brings

Performance: Instant startup, smooth scrolling, native rendering without web view overhead. Platform Integration: Native share sheets, better keyboard handling, platform-specific gestures. Offline Capabilities: Local caching, offline conversation access, reliable sync. Polish: Platform-specific UI conventions, native components, better accessibility.

Our Approach

We’re not doing a big-bang rewrite. Instead:

  1. Gradual migration: Replace web views screen by screen
  2. Testing at every step: Each native screen goes through rigorous testing
  3. User feedback: Beta testers help validate improvements
  4. No feature regression: Native versions must match or exceed hybrid functionality

Timeline

This is a significant undertaking. Our rough timeline:

  • Q4 2025: Core chat interface native on iOS
  • Q1 2026: Core chat interface native on Android
  • Q2 2026: Settings, projects, and auxiliary screens native
  • Q3 2026: Full native experience on both platforms

These are goals, not promises. We’ll prioritize quality over speed.

We want you to know we hear you, we’re committed—mobile is a major focus—and the current app stays fully supported while we build native.

In the Meantime

While we work toward native, we’re continuing to improve the current hybrid apps:

  • Regular performance optimization
  • Bug fixes as they’re discovered
  • New feature parity with web
  • Better testing on diverse devices

Today’s update is part of that commitment. We’re not waiting for native to make the mobile experience better—we’re improving it continuously.
